The Best Premium Economy seat to London is Virgin Atlantic's Premium Economy seat.

Measuring 21 inches wide, it's the biggest Premium Economy seat by three inches, and equivalent to many other airlines' Business Class seats.

To put this in perspective, here are some other carriers' Business Class seat widths (in inches): American, 20; Continental, 20 to 22; Delta, 18.5 to 20; Northwest, 20.25; and United, 19 to 20.5.

Covered in sumptuous purple leather, the Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy seat features ample legroom (the seat pitch is 38 inches) and an additional two degrees of recline. An adjustable lumbar support, flexible headrest and new footrest, combined with laptop power and a redesigned table, make the Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy seat a comfortable place in which to work or relax.

Granted, the legroom and recline are less than most Business Class seats, but when you’re not sleeping, it’s the seat width that counts. The Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy seat blows away the competition, which means Virgin may hike Premium Economy fares.

The new Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy seat is already available on selected flights and is currently rolling out across the carrier's London Heathrow fleet. The roll out will continue across its London Gatwick fleet through 2008.
