Flash Deal Summary

If you already have American miles, or can transfer Marriott points to American Airlines, given the coach fare (including co-pay) generally ranges from $1,300 to $2,500 round-trip, and the normal Business Class fare generally ranges from $3,500 to $6,000 to Asia, you can use American miles to save $1,000 to $4,700 (29% to 78%) on your next premium travel booking.

THE RISK OF CHANGING OR CANCELLING AN UPGRADE AWARD TICKET WITH AA DURING CORONAVIRUS: Changes to your itinerary that do not require a different mileage upgrade award than your original ticket do not require payment of the award reinstatement fee. Any co-payment amount already paid can be reapplied toward the upgrade co-payment for the new itinerary.

However, if you make changes to your itinerary that involve different mileage upgrade award(s) than your original ticket (instead of Asia you want to go to Europe, for example), there’s a $150 reinstatement fee, plus forfeiture of the non-refundable co-payment, totaling $850.

For cancellations, you also forfeit any non-refundable co-payment and you’re responsible for paying the reinstatement fee. You can find more details on AA’s site here.

However, for a paid economy ticket, fare rules and restrictions of the original purchased fare do apply. AA is currently waiving all change fees for new bookings until July 31, 2020. (But any difference in fares will apply.) See FCF’s risk of booking widget here.

Disclaimer:

Everybody knows how frequently airfares change (some estimates claim that there are up to 500,000 fare changes daily). Because that’s a few too many for First Class Flyer to keep up with, FCF cannot guarantee that all fares discussed will be available when you go to make a booking. Also, for the sake of quick and easy “executive summary” format, all fare rules and restrictions can’t possibly be included. Fares quoted usually include the average taxes and fees for the routes in the chart.
