SAS on Short-Notice
Many of you are asking how to bag reasonably priced Business Class fares to Europe this summer at the last minute, which is not easy to do. So I was drawn to these fares from Scandinavian Airlines (not usually my first choice): They only require a three-day advance purchase and have no minimum stay restrictions. Maximum stay is 12 months. That’s great for business travelers and last-minute leisure travelers, alike.Granted, flying to Scandinavia may be a bit out of your way, but the flexibility and price make these fares worth considering. Star Alliance members will also appreciate earning miles with partner carriers (i.e., United or US Airways). The new Business Class fares to Finland from Newark start at $2,660 roundtrip; from Washington D.C., $2,997; and from Chicago, $3,252.
Tickets are non-refundable. A $300 fee applies on changes to return flights. Infants (up to two years old) without a seat pay 10% of the adult ticket price.
Iberia’s New Business Class
The carrier just went to the head of the line as far as Business Class cabins to Europe go. The refitted Business Class has lie-flat beds (Iberia is one of only a few airlines offering them to Europe), power outlets and high-speed internet connections in every seat. Seat configuration is 2-2-2, seat pitch is 60 inches, seat width is 20.5 inches (26 at the shoulders when flat). The service is now available on one of Iberia’s two daily non-stops from JFK to Madrid, and will be expanded to Mexico, Latin America, and South Africa.Through the airline directly, you can get 2-for-1s to over 20 cities in Europe, and Africa (see FCF June 2005). The carrier is a member of Oneworld.
