Business Class Seats for Less on Aer Lingus

Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus flies Airbus A330 aircraft from Dublin and Shannon to various US gateways. Discount economy fares are frequently advertised on the airline’s website, but bargain Business Class is as rare as a four-leaf clover. Here’s a way to enjoy much of the premium-cabin comfort at a reasonable rate.

Book the Orlando-Dublin flight in coach, and choose a seat in the first four rows—they’re Business Class seats. When Aer Lingus introduced the Dublin-Orlando service, it must have decided that the route would only appeal to leisure travelers unwilling to pay for Business Class. The seats carry an upcharge of $350, each way, from any economy class fare.

Caveats: First, the in-flight service is the same as economy class. Second, the seats are older, traditional recliners rather than the lie-flat seats on the carrier’s newer long-haul aircraft. Still, the seat is 20 inches wide, with 52 inches of pitch. Booking the lowest current economy fare at $562, and adding the $700 upgrade comes to $1,262 (plus taxes and fuel surcharge).
