Under a new program called Coach Choice, Delta Air Lines now offers all passengers the economy cabin’s roomiest seats (in the coveted exit rows) and other choice spots for $5 to $25. Seats can be confirmed within 24 hours of scheduled departure. That waters down the Elite-member benefit of access to those same seats for free under Delta’s Preferred Seat program.
On the upside, Delta is eliminating fuel surcharges ($25-$100) on award travel within the US and Canada booked through SkyMiles or Northwest’s WorldPerks.
On the sort-of upside: The carrier is knocking $5 off phone bookings, leaving the fee at a still absurd $20.
