Even if you’re not flying the routes covered below you can still use this information for itinerary planning, specifically to find connecting flights most likely to have upgrades available, flights with newer seats, a free award seat—or perhaps all three.

Good Business Class Award Availability to Europe on Alitalia (SkyTeam)

New Seasonal Routes: This summer Alitalia is adding three new flights to Europe: Chicago-Rome (May 1 to Oct. 13); Los Angeles-Rome (May 1 to Oct. 23); additional service New York-Rome (April 17 to Oct. 25). Alitalia’s Business Class seats (20 inches wide, 15.4-inch monitor) turn into 73.5 to 76-inch-long flat-beds in a 1-2-1 layout.

The only question is whether the flight will have Lufthansa’s new Business Class seat. There are 34 Business Class seats (22 inches wide and 30 at the shoulders when in it’s a bed), 79.5-inch-long flat-bed) in a 1-1-1 layout. Premium Economy seats, in a 2-3-2 layout (see the March issue for more on how FCF defines Premium Economy), are 21-inches wide, have 38-inches of pitch, recline 16 degrees, and are equipped with a 10.4-inch monitor A round-trip award ticket to London is 100,000 miles in Business Class and 70,000 miles in Premium Economy.
