Bonus: There are routes with “Sweet Redeems,” plus Lufthansa is often in FCF’s fare alerts.

In December, Lufthansa completed installation of a new flat-bed Business Class seat and cabin refurbishment on its long-haul fleet (106 aircraft).

The new seat, a shell design, converts to a 6.5 foot-long flatbed (almost two meters), with ergonomic cushioning control, to adjust firmness. See more information on Lufthansa’s new seat.

Booking the New Seats with Miles

For Sweet Redeems seekers, here’s how to work the system to get the new Business Class seat.

Asiana Miles: 80,000.

Starwood Points: 65,000 transferred to Asiana.

If you took advantage of LifeMiles’ recent 140% mileage purchase bonus (covered in an FCF alert on Dec. 10); also see FCF’s December 2013 special report), New York-Frankfurt in Business Class costs $1,902 (including award taxes and fewer restrictions) versus a published fare starting at $5,622 (and rises to $14,857), which is a savings of at least $3,720 (66%).
