Colorado Advantage

United Airlines is giving Colorado residents who purchase a ticket in First or Business Class to any U.S., Canadian, or Caribbean destination a free companion ticket in the same class of service on the same flight. Valid through Dec. 31, 2003. Moreover, the deal is valid for travel over Thanksgiving and Christmas.

America West Airport Upgrades

The carrier offers passengers the opportunity to upgrade from coach to First on the day of travel. Upgrades are available starting four hours before and until 30 minutes prior to departure. The fee is mileage-based as follows: 0 500 miles, $50; 501-1,000, $100; over 1,000, $150; nonstop coast-to- coast, $250. Special upgrade fees apply to the following routes: Phoenix-El Paso, $25; Phoenix-Boise, $50; Phoenix-Seattle, $100.

Spirit’s New Seating Plan

The low-fare carrier is removing six seats from the economy section of its MD-80 fleet, bringing seat pitch in coach to 31 inches, up from 29-30 inches, as well as increasing the number of seats in Spirit Plus, its premium coach cabin, from 12 to 16. The airline offers upgrades to Spirit Plus at $40 per flight segment. Spirit Plus seats, made of leather and arranged in a 2-2 configuration, have 36 inches of legroom.The Airline serves Atlantic City, Chicago/O’Hare, Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Myrtle Beach, New York/LaGuardia, San Juan, Washington, D.C., and the Florida cities of Ft. Delta Increases Premium Award Levels

Effective Mar. 16, 2004, First Class awards to Hawaii increase 15,000 miles to 75,000. That’s not a big deal right now because Hawaii fares are so low from the East Coast and Midwest. Within the continental U.S., the First Class award requirement jumps only 5,000 miles (economy class award stays the same).

International Business Class awards increase the most to Asia, increasing 30,000 miles to 120,000. Business Class to Europe will only increase 10,000 miles to 90,000.

One-way upgrades to Europe will only increase 5,000 miles. Domestic upgrades hold steady at 30,000 miles.

Malaysia Ups Business Class Seats

The airline is increasing the number of seats from 32 to 44 on all nine A330-300s, which fly the Kuala Lumpur/Singapore route and regional/medium-haul routes—a sign of good health.
