But bear in mind it costs you $25 to check one bag in on an economy ticket.

You get three bags free in First Class. And you avoid other nuisance fees. And lines. Etc, etc.

Sure, we are talking about a two-hour domestic flight here. But the surcharge is no less generous—relatively—on longer domestic flights with this surprising scheme.

I find their very systematic way of selling upgrades (so discreetly it seems) quite fascinating.
