On Aug. 7 Air New Zealand begins flying the San Francisco-Auckland route with newly refitted Boeing 747s. The big change: a new Premium Economy cabin will be added. The carrier is now selling special Premium Economy fares at airnewzealand.com. For travel commencing Aug.7- 25, fares are $1,642 for flights departing San Francisco Monday to Wednesday, and $1,692 for flights departing Thursday to Sunday. For travel commencing Aug. 27 to Dec. 9, San FranciscoAuckland fares are $1,976 Monday to Wednesday and $2,025 Thursday to Sunday.

ANZ is also offering specials on Los AngelesAuckland flights through Dec. 5, for travel from Nov. 5 to Dec. 9. Premium Economy fares are $1,975 for Monday to Wednesday departures, $2,025 for Thursday to Sunday departures. On Nov. 5 the carrier begins offering Premium Economy service on the LAX-AKL route.

Minimum stay is seven days; maximum stay is one month. Change fee is $150; cancellation fee is 50% of fare. Accompanied children 2-11 years old pay 75%. Accompanied infants under two years of age not occupying a seat pay 10%.

New Pacific Premium Economy service will feature seats (left) with 39- to 40-inches of pitch, on-demand digital entertainment, a personal 8.4-inch high resolution screen, in-seat power for electronic devices, extra recline, and Premium check-in. The cabin will be in the bubble.
