The carrier just introduced Airbus 340-600s on its Atlanta-Johannesburg service, the first African airline to operate the longest-haul passenger jet in the air today.
The Airline’s A340-600 features a new, deluxe ‘Premium Business’ cabin, which replaces the previous Business and First Class cabins. The new Biz Class has 42 seats (2-2-2 configuration) that convert to 180-degree, private, lie-flat beds. Seat pitch (distance between rows) is 73 inches, seat width 24 inches. SA will follow up on Apr. 1 with the inaugural service from New York (JFK) to Johannesburg using A340-600E (extended range) jets. The new aircraft will shorten the flight time by eliminating the refueling stop in the Cape Verde Islands on the Jo’burg-JFK leg.
