  • How plan-ahead travelers can get eight nights free at the Four Seasons Sydney, for example.
  • How to Save 40% on short-notice Business Class.

Business Class fares to Australia head for the stratosphere—up to $10,000 per person—once you pass the 150-day advance-purchase deadline. Even fares with 50-day and 28-day advance-purchase deadlines are expensive, $7,000+ and $8,000+, respectively.

That makes the destination perfect for package deals in these scenarios. The best one we found is from Delta Vacations: Business Class at up to 40% off, even on a 28-day advance-purchase ticket. And, as it’s a package, it comes with a hotel, which you likely need anyway.

Los Angeles-Sydney Example: A six-night package costs $5,288 per person (based on two travelers). That includes accommodations at the Marriott Sydney Harbour Hotel. Booking the flight and hotel separately would cost $17,677—$1,377 for the hotel and $16,300 for the two tickets. The package saves you $7,101 (40%). See screenshot below.

Delta Vacation packages even beat the lowest published 150-day advance-purchase fare

A LAX-Sydney Business Class ticket (sample dates used Sept. 4 and return Sept. 14) is $10,300 for two passengers, which is the lowest 150-day advance-purchase fare, whereas a package deal through Delta Vacations, with eight nights at the Four Seasons Sydney, is $10,297 for two ($5,148 per person), making the hotel stay, in effect, free. See Delta Vacation screenshot below. (The average Four Seasons Sydney rate in September is $1,793.)

Moreover, many Delta Vacation deals are offered on the carrier’s code-share partner Virgin Australia. That means you can book a package to any major Australian city and get there in comfort, because both Delta and Virgin Australia offer flatbed seats on U.S.-Australia flights.

To Keep in Mind

  • Always check published fares before buying a package, so you have a basis for comparison.
  • Package deals are especially good on routes where Business Class fares are high, such as to Australia, even if you fulfill the advance-purchase requirement.
