This year, stimulus packages are getting a lot of press and mixed reviews from the public. But here’s one that frequent flyers should back wholeheartedly because it moves them to the front of the plane at economy rates.

Singapore Airlines is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its loyalty program, KrisFlyer, by offering a 25% discount on premium award redemptions for selected routes flown by certain aircraft (see chart). Seats must be booked through singaporeair.com by September 15, and travel completed by September 30th.

Normally, the airline charges 80,000 miles for a Business Class award ticket from New York to Frankfurt. With the 25% discount, that ticket costs 60,000 miles. That’s what many programs charge for a coach seat.

If you have no KrisFlyer miles, you can buy and transfer Amex Rewards points to your Singapore account to find even greater savings. For example, Singapore’s award level for a First Class seat on the Los Angeles-Tokyo route is 140,000 miles; 105,000 after the 25% KrisFlyer discount. Buying the miles from Amex Rewards at 2.5¢ each brings your total to $2,625—for a ticket with a published fare of more than $14,000!

FCF has researched Business Class round-trip award availability for three routes through the next eleven months and found:

Los Angeles to Tokyo: Seats are plentiful May through September; availability is good in March and April.

New York to Frankfurt: Seats are plentiful April through September; availability is good in March.

Vancouver to Seoul: Good availability April though September.
