US Airways is running a year-end promotion offering fare discounts or double Preferred qualifying miles. We advise taking the latter, because on some itineraries you can move up an elite level (or become an elite) with just one flight. Here’s some sample math for a flight from Los Angeles to Milan.
12,982 miles flown + 6,491 class-of-service bonus + 6,491 Europe Envoy promotion miles = 25,964 total Preferred qualifying miles
Jumping up one elite level on US Airways yields significant benefits. For example, Chairman Preferred elites can request upgrades up to seven days in advance, whereas Platinum elite members can only do so four days out.
Promotion applies to all European destinations. Purchase deadline: Dec. 31. Travel must be completed by Feb. 28, 2009. Tickets must be purchased online with a MasterCard.
The discounts are 5% on flights to Frankfurt, Madrid, Dublin, Manchester, and Munich; 10% to London, Paris, and Amsterdam; and 20% to Brussels, Milan, and Rome.
