Why You Should Consider All-Business Class Flights

All-Business Class service, once the province of feisty, classy startups such as EOS, Silverjet, and Maxjet, is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the major carriers. Some major carriers offer all-Business Class service on routes they also serve with standard two- or three-cabin aircraft.

What makes all-Business Class flights so special? The feeling of flying in a private jet, kind of. All-Business Class jets carry fewer passengers (50 vs. 200 in a widebody), which means a feeling of exclusivity as well as a more efficient boarding process. One would think the airlines would charge more for these flights but that is not the case, with British Airways being the exception.

Here’s a rundown of the airlines still offering all-Business Class service and current promotions:

Current All-Business Class Service: British Airways (starts Sept. 29), KLM, Lufthansa, Singapore, and SWISS.

Routes offering all-Business Class Service: Europe and Asia.

Current Fare, Earning Miles and Award Promotions: Lufthansa and SWISS are offering double award miles through August 13. More information: Lufthansa and SWISS Link Singapore Airlines is currently offering 7-day advance promotions with fares starting at $5,200 as well as discounted mileage awards. More information: Singapore Fare Link and Singapore Miles Link.

Advance-Purchase: It’s often the ticket to the best fares. On KLM, book at least 50 days out to get a fare as low as $2,655. On Lufthansa (as low as $1,878), you have to buy at least 14 days in advance and on SWISS (as low as $2,500), at least 21days in advance. British Airways is still trying to figure out how to price its new service, because its current price is anything but cheap and at $5,000 (plus taxes and fees) charges more for the all-Business Class service than other BA flights on the same route. Time will tell if this pricing works, or if BA will be forced to price its all-Business Class service the same as its regular Business Class seat.

Award Travel: Remember that British Airways trans-Atlantic flights can also be redeemed via Asia Miles, that KLM is part of SkyTeam (Continental, Delta, and Northwest), and that Lufthansa and SWISS are in the Star Alliance (United and US Airways).
