The Delta-Northwest merger means many things to many people – including those who hold credit cards as part of Northwest’s WorldPerks program. Bottom line: You will have to change your card. Pay close attention to the credit card offers you’re receiving. We have heard that many are getting two invitations: the Delta SkyMiles Amex card, which is “the co-brand credit card partner for the current and integrated SkyMiles program”; and a US Bank Visa card (Northwest had a Visa connection).
To receive maximum benefits in a mileage program, you’ll need the right credit card. Are these benefits—elite qualification miles, access to Delta’s Crown Room Club for you and guests—important to you? If so, our recommendation is the Delta American Express Reserve card. Do you want ONLY Delta frequent flyer miles so you can add to your existing mileage balance? Then go with the Delta Gold card. Or, as we always say, look into the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express, which has 29 partners and higher applicability.
