Our previous Bucket List Event, Wimbledon, was a winner in June (and not just for Andy and Serena), and now we’re sipping, sniffing and immersing ourselves in the world’s largest wine tourism attraction now through October 8.

Whether you’re a wine aficionado with a bags-packed mentality, or a teetotaller with a penchant for French adventure, the Bordeaux Wine Festival is a wonderful cultural event.
Bordeaux is tucked away in the southwest corner of France, a picture-book land of châteaux, rolling hills and fields of sunflowers. It’s an ideal time of the year too, with mostly sunny days in the 70s and 80s. The closest major airports are Barcelona and Paris. It’s a quick, inexpensive connection from either, or you can take the high-speed train from Paris in around 3 hours. Or you can drive. The little towns and villages along the way are stunning.
There’s lots to do in and around Bordeaux. During the Festival there are fireworks displays every night as well as a spectacular sound and light show projected onto the façade of the grand Palais de la Bourse. There’s also the Water Mirror, the world’s largest reflecting pool that alternately mirrors and mists.
